Moulding planes are used to create mouldings, or profiles, in wood. This type of moulding plane is called a 'table round' as its main use was for moulding fluting along the edges of tables and other furniture. It is made of beech, the sole is rounded to a keel and the blade is narrow, concave and has a rounded end. It was used at R. Middleton & Sons wheelwrights shop in Eddington, Hungerford.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This tool was used at the Middletons' wheelwrights' shop at Hungerford (Berks). // This type of moulding plane is called a 'Table round', as its main use was for the moulding of flutings along edges of tables and other furniture. It is similar in construction to the other moulding planes, having a side discharge of shavings, and it is constructed of beech. The plane is 9.1 inches in length, 3.6 inches high and the sole is rounded to a keel shape. The blade is concave and is 0.5 inches wide.'
