This is an iron planter with a wooden handle, made in Belton, Lincolnshire. It is inscribed, 'G. PAWLETT, Maker, BELTON, GRANTHAM'. This planter would be pressed into the ground to remove a core of earth. A tuber or bulb could then be planted in the resulting hole and the core of earth pushed out to refill the hole.
