This is a shearing hook, a thatching tool used for cleaning down the face of finished work. It consists of a tanged and dished curved blade and a wooden handle. It was made by Morris of Dunsford.

Lloyd Rogers... // 25 May 1966. // About 1930 or 1933 informant was farm pupil near Dunsford + was very familiar with this Morris edge hook works. At that time Morris came from Sheffield to run the works for the then owner HELSON in whose family the business had been for about 100 years. Morris brought two sons. One drove the butchers cart + the other worked 3 days a week at the works... // Business was then very slack but picked up in the early '40s. Produced Devon patterns under name of Morris but also did work on contract for Brades. // Would be worth visiting Dunsford again.'
