Descrizione
This is a guinea purse, probably of English provenance, although it was given to the depositor by a woman who spent much of her life in the West Indies. It consists of a leather bag with a brass plated cap used to open and close it. It probably dates from the early-twentieth century, and was known to have been used to carry sovereigns and half-crowns.

MERL 'Handwritten catalogue' form – 'PURSE (GUINEA) // Mr. Wheeler comments:- 'It was given to us by a friend who had spent much of her life in the West Indies. I cannot therefore guarantee that it is of English provenance, though I think it likely. I would suggest that it is probably of Edwardian date. It certainly has been used for sovereigns and half-crowns.' // [pencil sketch] // Brass (Plated) // Leather'
