This table mat is thought to have been used instead as a beer mat in pubs in the Berkshire and Oxfordshire. It is circular in shape, made of wood, with a 6-pointed brass star in the centre.

Letter, Mrs Langford-Jones to MERL, 4th January 1956 - 'I had been thinking of writing to you to offer 2 small objects though you probably have some of the same kind already. // One thing is a round platter of wood about 5 inches - with a 6 pointed brass star cut in - I am told they were used in the country pubs round here to stand the beer mugs on.'
