Storico archivio
MERL miscellaneous note - '53/93/1; long poles placed in a brake [wooden vice] and shaved of their bark by means of a draw knife; poles first have to be straightened in a steaming chest as often crooked; poles are then rounded with the final smoothing carried out by sandpaper; and the end of the handle is flattened by an axe and split; a tin ring is then placed at the end of the split to prevent further splitting. 53/93/2; portion of rake made of willow; head of Dutch willow and the tines of Black willow; head is shaped entirely by a broad flat axe; bevelling on edges depends of artistry of craftsman; side of head is drilled by a spoon bit and stock to create two holes in which the handle will fit; final stage is finishing off and trimming of all odd corners; tines sharpened by a draw knife and handle is fitted so rake is ready for sale.'
