This heavy oak bucket, made in the late-eighteenth or early-nineteenth century, was likely to have been used for general farm carrying or as a well bucket.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This is a heavy oak bucket which may have been used as a well bucket or for general farm uses. Nine pieces of oak form the sides and the bottom is made of two pieces. There are three wrought iron bands round the outside and the handle is secured by two decorated wrought iron eyes. The bucket is 10.5 inches high and the diameter across the top lid is 11.75 // Mr. Hewer bought the bucket at a sale near Poole.'
