This is a straw rope twister, a tool used by two people for making rope from straw. Nothing is known of its origin, though it was thought by the donor to be 75-100 years old at the time of acquisition in 1952.

The handle on the centre part also seems to be made of 2 rounded pieces of wood held together in the same way. See also 51/20 M. //
