Descrizione
This is a glazing iron, which was used hot after applying wax, inks, special polishes or heel balls to give the leather surface lustre, particularly within the soles and heels. The handle has two paper bands reading 'The Boston Series of High Class Shoe Tools for finishing hand and machine work' and 'READY FOR USE'. This example was used by Henry Crocker, the donor's grandfather, of Bell Street, Henley.
