This is a fichu, which is a large, square kerchief worn by women in the 18th century to fill in the low neckline of a bodice. This example is made of embroidered muslin, with satin stitch, button hole edging and cut out circles. Donated along with various other muslin, cotton and lace garments 68/280-68/313.
