Descrizione
This is a large wooden double press used for pressing cheeses. It has a wooden base (stool) with four legs and there are 3 upright wooden pillars with a strong cross bar. The pressing plates are also wood. Iron rods are fixed to these and connect with a system of iron levers and arms with an iron wheel and handle which is turned to move the pressing plates down. Two large stones on either side suspended on the bars give the weight which exerts pressure on the cheeses. This came to the museum as part of the Sharp collection.
