Descrizione
This wrought iron toaster, with a turned wooden handle, was designed to hang on the bars of a grate. The bread was propped against the rest and the height of the toast was adjusted by a ratchet. It dates from the eighteenth or nineteenth century and came from Sussex.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This toaster was designed to hang on the bars of a grate. It has a rest against which the bread was propped. This can be raised or lowered by means of a ratchet. It is made of wrought iron, decorated with perforations, and has a turned wooden handle. // The toaster came from Sussex and measures 16 inches in length and 8.5 inches in width.', Victoria & Albert Museum No. M284, 1917.
