Description
This is a wall clock made of dark wood with a large round face surrounded by a brass trim. It is marked ‘Tameside No.12211’ on the frame, and someone has painted crudely in white ‘L.G. July 1968’. The face and frame probably date from 1850–1910, while the movement dates from 1930–1940. The pendulum bob does not belong to this clock, being too heavy.

He did, very helpfully & with much good humour. // 1. The dial & case is probably 1850–1910 & was called a factory or office clock. // 2. The movement is modern (c. 1930–1940) but could be made to work. // 3. The white disc painted on the dial is an attempt to conceal the bolt heads when the new movement was fitted. // 4. The pendulum bob is much too heavy & does not belong to the clock. // 5. The cost of a practical overhaul would be about £180+. A new pendulum bob would be another £20 odd (all plus VAT). // 6. Ah well, not one of my better ideas: it’s back on the wall & I’m back to the drawing board.’
