Description
This milking machine, manufactured by R. A. Lister and Co. Ltd. of Dursley, Gloucestershire, dates from circa 1912. It was used by the donor at Pages Farm in Upminster. The machine consists of a tinned steel churn with a handle for carrying, and a lid with various inlet and outlet pipes to which rubber hoses would be attached. Other components, such as four teat components, were donated with the machine.

MERL ‘History Artefacts’ card – ‘Description: A heavy tinned steel churn with a rim at the base that acts as a stand. The churn has straight sides, which are dented, and then slopes in towards the neck. There is a swinging handle for carrying. The top unit consists of a lid and with it are two identical parts consisting of various inlet and outlet pipes to which the rubber hoses would be attached. There is a bridge above this with two arms for holding the hoses and cluster when not in use. There are four teat cups and three other components associated with the churn.’
