Description
This scythe blade dates from c.1900, and was used in the County Durham area. It is a long mowing scythe, of the type associated with the 'West country mowers' in the Durham area. It may have been used in meadows too steep for horse mowing.

The last memories of them appear to date from the turn of the century. but some of the scythes were no doubt retained for use on meadows too steep for horse mowing.', MERL miscellaneous note - 'It is not clear what three parts the object number refers to - this appears to be a single scythe blade.'
