Description
This long-handled perfume ladle has a lignum vitae handle and a wrought hemispherical spoon. The spoon at the end is a hollow semi-sphere, attached to a separate rod of metal that forms the stem. For a quarter of the length the stem is flat on all four sides till the small marking of four diamonds. The handle is made of lignum-vita wood with three sets of five rings carved closely together. The very end of the handle tapers to a flattened point on which there’s a small piece of metal with a hole in it, through which there’s a thin metal ring. It dates from the late-eighteenth century and was used for vaporising perfume.
