Description
This lead fire insurance plaque was used as a sign for an insurance company, placed on the front of houses indicating they were insured against fire. It is oval in shape, and embossed with a phoenix rising from a fire and stamped with the word 'protection', and has the number 'J6879' on a strip of lead underneath. This plaque was issued by the Phoenix Fire Office, which was founded in 1680. The Association was a fire insurance company and joined Sun Alliance in 1984.
