Description
Yokes like this were used for carrying pail buckets about the farm. The yoke was carried on the shoulders and the buckets hung on the chains at either end. The chains of this yoke are wrapped in greased paper and the ends of the wooden shoulder piece are bound with string. It is part of the Rumble Collection and was bought by the donor at an ironmongers in Camberley, Surrey, in 1935 and was used by him.

MERL miscellaneous note, Greta Bertram, 25 October 2013 – The objects 92/2–92/68 are part of the Rumble Collection, and were donated to the Museum by Mr Rumble in July 1991. The objects were collected or purchased by Mr Rumble or his father, and most of them came from either Camberley, in Surrey, or Somerset, where Mr Rumble had previously lived.
