Description
The wheeled balance plough was used in areas with flat land and soft soil conditions - each end of the plough has a coulter, share and mouldboard, and one was pulled down into the soil whilst the opposite was raised into the air. This is a horse drawn, single furrow, reversible balance plough made by Davey, Sleep & Co of Excelsior Eng. Works, Plymouth. It is made of wrought iron, painted blue, and steel, with one larger and one smaller wheel. It was purchased by the donor in 1920 and used on his farm in Crawley, West Sussex until the 1930s.
