Description
This mushroom basket, also known as a ‘chip’ basket, was made by Federal Containers Ltd. of Calstock, Cornwall, in the 1960s. It is a non-returnable basket for marketing mushrooms and can hold 4lb. It is rectangular wooden basket with a metal handle. Various freshly felled timbers were used, such as poplar, willow, fir and lime, and were imported from Belgium and Canada if not local. These baskets were superseded by cardboard.
