Description
This small can is either a cream can or a milk can for very small quanitites of milk and was used to deliver milk or cream to households. It is made of tinned metal and is oval in shape with a lid and a brass handle for carrying. It is inscribed with 'The Britannia Can' and 'Dairy Farmers' and is stamped with the Union Jack. Nothing is known of its origin.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This small milk can is made of tinned metal and was probably used originally for cream or very small quantities of milk. It is oval in shape and measures 2.75 inches in height and 2.75 inches by 2 inches across the base. It has a brass handle for carrying and a brass hinge which joins the lid to the can. The hinged [sic] is stamped with a Union Jack device and marked ‘The Brittania Can’. The body of the can bears the words ‘Dairy Farmers’. The name of the firm is very faint. Separate parts of the can are soldered together.'
