Description
Unframed engraving by Stanley Anderson RA (1884-1966), titled ‘Windswept Corn’. Produced in 1938, the print is an edition of 40. Signed in pencil “Ed 40: Stanley Anderson”. The print shows three men harvesting crops. The man in the foreground holds a bagging hook in his right hand which is he using to cut the corn near the base. In his left hand he holds a crook stick which he is using to lift the corn. At his waist is a sharpening stone held inside a folded pouch attached to his belt. On the far left is a man using a crook stick to carry a bundle of corn. At the back the third man is using a sharpening stone to hone his bagging hook. Anderson’s monogram featuring the initials “SA” within a triangle is engraved within the plate.

Purchased at auction from Rosberys, London. Lot number 35 in the Modern & Contemporary Prints, Photography, Multiples & Editions sale held on 21st November 2015. The vendor’s parents are residents of the village of Towersey in Oxfordshire; they purchased the print directly from the artist. The print was purchased with the support of the Art Fund.
