Description
This is one of 64 printing blocks used to print the illustrations in ‘The English Farm Wagon: Origins and Structure’ by John Geraint Jenkins, as published in 1961. Jenkins was the Assistant Keeper at MERL 1953-1960, and these blocks were found in the Museum in 2010. This block - Figure 16 (d) on page 73 - is one of a series of photographs taken at Ardington, Berkshire, in 1959 showing the process of fitting an iron tyre to a wheel. This photograph shows the wheelwrights pouring water onto the wheel to shrink the tyre.
