Description
This paring knife was made by Isaac Nash Ltd., of Belbroughton, Worcestershire, for the thatching exhibit at the Festival of Britain. Paring knives are used for trimming the untidy ends of straw at the bottom of the new thatch, after the yealms have been laid and fastened down to the roof. These implements are used saw-wise. They are sometimes used with shears for the rougher work and sometimes in place of shears. Paring knives are usually made by cutting the blade of a new scythe in half.
