Description
This is a wooden saddler's clamp. The clamp acts as a vice into which a saddler would insert a piece of harness for stitching. The saddler would hold the clamp between his knees as he sewed to maintain the pressure on the work. This clamp was found in an old house at Ashwater Barton, in Beaworthy, Devon, parts of which are thought to be about 400 years old.
