This plough spud belonged to the Sexty Brothers of Bangrove Farm near Winchcombe, Gloucestershire, and was used together with their Gloucestershire Long Plough. The spud was used for scraping dirt off the wooden mouldboard when it became clogged. The spud had a new handle fitted in 1962.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – ‘This plough spud was obtained by Mr. Massingham from the Sexty Brothers of Bangrove Farm, Nr. Winchcomb [sic] (Glos.). It had been used with their Gloucestershire Long Plough, the remaining parts of which are also in the Museum (51/149M). The spud was used for scraping dirt off the wooden mouldboard when it became clogged. The spud is made of wrought iron and is 8 inches long, the blade being 4 inches across.
