Nothing is known about the origin of this ratchet hanger, which was used for suspending cooking utensils over an open hearth. It has a tubular upright and five teeth.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'The tubular upright of this hanger is 13 inches long. The ratchet is 12 inches long and 2 inches wide. It has five teeth. Both the ratchet and the upright are hooked at their extreme ends.
