MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'The origin of this trap is unknown. It consists of a flat bottom steel piece 12 inches long and .8 inches in width. The jaws with the flat top serrated are fixed onto the front of the bottom piece at one end and to a small projection 4 inches from the front at the other. The sprung top shaft is 7.5 inches long and is rivetted to the back of the trap at one end and its ringed tip is fitted around the jaws, causing them to close when the clip holding the platform (which is missing) is released by the rabbit stepping on the platform.
