Descripción
This is a very heavy wide mouthed sheep bell made of cast bronze. It is missing its clapper. It has a single loop, or staple, at the top to which a strap would be attached. Bells were used by shepherds to help them locate their sheep.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This is a wide-mouthed sheep bell, made of bronze and cast. It is an unusually heavy bell. The staple which lies across the length of the crown passes through two holes in the top and holds the clapper on the inside of the bell. The clapper is now missing. / it measures 3.5 inches in length, 4.25 inches across the mouth, and 3 inches across the crown.
