This is a white plastic bag containing wood charcoal. Also it has an inscritpion: 'LAKELAND CHARCOAL// QUALITY CHARCOAL FROM LAKELAND // HARDWOODS// Contains approx 5lb when packed'. The Furness area of the Lake District has been famous for it's charcoal for hundreds of years; most of it was used to smelt the highest quality iron and steel for use in industry throughout the world. Lakeland Charcoal, set up by the New Woodmanship Trust with the Lake District National Park, aims to help this process of conservation by reviving charcoal production in the Lake District for modern purposes, and by stimulating an interest in the sustained and careful management of our broadleaved woodland heritage which will carry it into the future in good heart.
