A smoothing plane, for general smoothing and producing a finished surface in wood. It belonged to the donor's wife's grandfather, who was a wheelwright. The plane has a coffin-shaped stock and an adjustable mouth, and the blade is held in place with a wooden wedge. It is marked 'W. Greenslade // Bristol' and 'W. Sarjent // West Street // Reading'.
