This is a butter mould, this example is a square wooden mould used for making solid block of butter in shape of wheatsheaf. This came to museum as part of the Sharp Collection.

The Sharp Collection of agricultural and dairying equipment was compiled by Reverend C. J. Sharp at Wonersh, Surrey. Reverend Sharp died in 1967 and the Museum acquired the Collection for £60 in 1968., MERL ‘History Artefacts’ cards - ‘MOULD // PROCESSING Milk Butter // Source Rev Sharp // Notes: Description: A square wooden mould consisting of two identical halves with a wheat sheaf design (one side shows the knot in the string). It has two wooden pegs (one of which is worn away) to hold the mould together. Use: For making a solid block of butter in the shape of a wheat sheaf.’
