This is a model of a ‘rustique’ basket, a French regional basket made on a mould and one of the oldest types of rural basket in France. It would have been used as a toy or ornament. It is an oval basket made of cane with a trunk lid and two plaited drop handles.

The Ann Mary Pilcher Collection of Victorian Baskets (67/60-94) was collected by Ann Mary Pilcher in 1957-1967, mostly from junk shops and stalls.
