This is a hand-coloured aquatint print entitled 'The Yorkshire Rose’. It was painted by G. Horner of Manchester, engraved by C. Turner, and published on 17 March 1838 by Henry Nicholson of Bedale, Yorkshire. The print depicts a shorthorn cow against a hilly landscape. The cow was bred by John Ainsley of Northallerton, Yorkshire, and fed by Medd Scarth of Carlton, Yorkshire. The print is one of a collection of paintings and prints thought to date from the last quarter of the 18th century to c.1860.
