This is a stoneware cider jar with a handle and a cork stopper. It has a salt glaze. It was used by the donor’s father in law in Stratfield Saye, Hampshire (formerly in Bekrshire).

MERL 'Handwritten catalogue' form – ‘See Mr White notes in correspondence. // From Stratfield Say, Berkshire. Salt glazed, and used for cider, probably, and originally used by Mr Merryweather (Mr White’s father-in-law) at No 1. The Street, Stratford Saye. // The jar is 10 inches high, 3” in diameter at base and 6” at widest part.’
