Descripción
This is a hood for a peregrine 'tercel', a male falcon. It is made of brown leather, with a red pompom and topped with a grey feather. The hood is the most important piece of falconry equipment, and is used in training the bird when accustoming it to humans (a process known as 'manning'), and to keep the bird calm. The earliest accounts of falconry, the art of hunting prey using trained birds, date back to 2000 BC.
