This cider jug was used for carrying cider from the farm house to field workers. It was originally purchased from a family of millers in Alton, Hampshire. It is glazed, cream in colour, and has a small hand grip to steady it when pouring.

MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'Cider Jug // ... // 19th century // Jugs of this type were used for carrying cider from the farm house to workers in the fields. The jug is glazed, cream in colour, and has a small hand grip to steady it when pouring. It is of traditional pattern though rather larger than usual. It stands 12 inches high, the base is 7 3/4 inches and the diameter of the widest part is 12 inches. The jug was originally bought from Mines Argels, Ansley House, Alton, Hampshire, whose family were millers.'
