Descripción
This Suffolk swing plough, a 'Type A Foot', was manufactured by Ransome & May, of Ipswich, later to become Ransome, Sims & Jefferies. This type of plough was manufactured from 1836-1846. A swing plough has no wheel, so requires a skilled ploughman to keep it balanced and produce even depth furrows, but can be used in less favourable weather conditions than a wheeled plough. The plough was also exhibited at the 20th art exhibition of the Council of Europe in Paris in 1989, which was on the theme 'The French Revolution and Europe'.
