Descripción
This is a 7" vinyl record (45rpm) in a cardboard presentation sleeve. It plays 'Sounds of the Countryside' and was the first in a new series of Shell Junior Records and was produced specifically for the educational field and designed for the primary level. It was part of the series, 'Shell Junior Records' and was published for 'Shell-Mex and B.P. LTD.' by Discourses Ltd., 34 High Street, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. The presentation sleeve was printed by West Brothers. The record plays sounds that one would hear during a country walk, including bird and animal sounds (recorded by expert John Kirby), and contains information pertaining to the lives of birds such as their feeding habits and nest-building, written and narrated by Johnny Morris. It has been compiled in such a way as not only to be informative but also sometimes humorous to promote the childen's interest in nature. The record was designed to be used with lightweight pickups (the arm that sits on the record while it is playing and then lifts off once it is finished).
