Descripción
Callipers are used to measure the diameter, radius, or distance between two points. These small iron hinged callipers have no scale meaning that the exact size between the jaws had to be measured afterwards on a rule. They were used at R. Middleton & Sons' wheelwrights workshop in Eddington, Hungerford.

Historia del archivo
MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'These small, iron hinged callipers were used in the wheelwright’s shop at Hungerford, Berkshire. They consist of but two iron shafts, hinged together and working stiffly enough not to need stops to fix the open jaws when the material is measured. There is no scale attached to these, so that they act as dividers, giving the size of the material so that the exact size between the jaws had to be measured afterwards on a rule. // These callipers, of a total length of 5 inches, have two arms which are semicircular and curve sharply inwards near the tip. // See also 51/705L.'
