This is a cultivator tine, part of a farm implement used for stirring and pulverizing the soil to bring weeds to the surface. This is a 'duck's foot' cultivator tine, made of iron. Little is known about its origins.

MERL miscellaneous note - Cultivators were developed in the early nineteenth century, mainly to deal with new land which the drag harrow could not touch. They stirred the soil deeply without turning it, and brought the weeds to the surface. //
