Descripción
This is part of a collar used for breaking in either gun dogs or horses. A leather strap or soft collar was passed through the iron loops and fastened round the animal's neck. The spikes then lay over the back of the neck and when pulled, the hinges allowed the collar to tighten and the spikes penetrated the leather and pricked the fleshy part of the neck, but did not harm the throat.
