A compass plane, with a slightly convex sole, used for smoothing curved surfaces. The wooden stock is marked 'J. Hopkins' and 'J. Carter' and the steel cutting blade is marked 'Thos. Ibbotson // Warranted // Cast Steel'. It belonged to a blacksmith from Wokingham, Berkshire.
