MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'This is a very simple form of toasting fork which was used with a fire on an open hearth. It consists of a wooden handle into which a two-pronged frame is socketed. The hooks swing loose on the end of the frame. // The toasting fork measures 19.75 inches in length, and the wrought iron frame 3 inches.'
