Historia del archivo
MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'Mr. Massingham says that this toasting implement is for oatcakes and that it was made by a blacksmith. // It is made of wrought iron and consists of a semi-circular strip, with a vertical strip across it in the middle. Inverted “S”s are bolted to the main bar at intervals of 2.5 inches and there is a larger inverted “S” near the base of the vertical bar, though the tip of one of its arms is broken off. The oatcakes or potatoes were, according to Mr. Massingham, speared on the points of “S”s and the toaster set in front of the fire. The vertical bar projects above the semi-circular one and into this is fixed a bent arm of round iron, which swivels on a pin inside a slot. This arm supports the toaster before the fire, at various heights. // The semi-circular bar is 38 inches in length and the “S”s are about 6 inches long. The supporting bar is 21 inches in length and has a small foot at the bottom.', MERL list / description [Massingham Collection, October 1989] – 'ACC.
