MERL 'Catalogue index' card – 'The origin of this meat hook is unknown. // This is an adjustable meat hook for suspending meat in front of the fire for roasting. The height of the hook can be adjusted over a range of 6 inches up or down by the rod which hooks into any of six ‘eyes’ in the ratchet plate. The hook itself was hung by the hole at the top from a chimney crane. // The hook is made of wrought iron and measures 18.5 inches in length when fully extended.', No Lavinia Smith No. recorded.
