Description
A pair of size no. 2 light brown corduroy breeches with laces at the knee, worn by the donor's mother's cousin when she was in the Women's Land Army (WLA) during World War II. The breeches were manufactured by Steinberg & Sons Ltd. in 1944, and were part of the official WLA uniform.

She was [donor’s] mother’s cousin & came to keep house for the family when [donor’s] mother went back to teaching during the war. // See attached card // Other costume donated 93/81–89.’, Note, donor to MERL, 1994 – ‘Belonged to Beatrice Clasper, cousin of my mother Isabella Temple, who came to keep house when mother answered the call for teachers. Then Beattie was called up into the Land Army. Mother had had to give up teaching when she married father in 1926. My sister and brother were born in 1936 and 1939, so when mother volunteered someone was needed to look after them. I was already at school. Mother was sent to a school in the village.’
