Description
This chaff cutter, a tool used to cut straw or hay into small pieces, was used by the donor at Zouch Farm in Culham, Oxfordshire until circa 1925. The cutting was done by a large knife in a double handle which was fastened at one end and lifted up, cutting the hay when it was pushed downwards. The maker’s name is missing but it is believed to have been made by Aldworth of Abingdon, Oxfordshire. The donor dated it to at least 1855.
