Description
Large fabric Pride flag from the Forestry Commission. The flag is a rainbow of six coloured bands in red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple and in the centre in white two trees and the words 'Forestry Commission'. The rainbow flag is a symbol of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) pride and LGBTQ social movements in use since the 1970s. Is has two rivetted holes on one side for use.

Museum Object Entry Form - 'Description of object/collection - Forestry Commission Pride Flag.', MERL Miscellaneous note - This object was donated by Mark Kourie, head of Rainbow Canopy, the Forestry Commission's LGBTQ staff network. Mark gifted a set of four objects to mark the first steering group of the Further Afield project, which was held on 8th December 2023. The project, funded by the Esmee Fairbairn Collections fund, aimed to improve representation of communities with protected characteristics across The MERL's activity and collections. Mark's donation was the first acquisition of the project.
