Description
The origin of this measure is unknown. It is made of finely turned box wood in the shape of a double egg cup, the two cups being of slightly different sizes. Such measures were usually made in sets and the double ended egg cup pattern occurs commonly in 18th century pewter. Solid turned wood measures were not accepted for verification in England after 1907 because of their gradual shrinkage. This type of measure would be used to measure spices, nuts etc.
